Belgrade’s iconic splavs—floating bars and clubs on the Danube and Sava rivers—have long defined the city’s energetic nightlife, attracting locals and tourists alike to their lively, music-filled venues.
But now, under the directive of Mayor Aleksandar Šapić, the city is dismantling up to two-thirds of its 300 splavs due to concerns about noise, environmental impact, and unregulated parties.
Already, over 70 splavs, including the legendary 20/44 club known for its underground music scene, have been removed, marking the end of an era for Belgrade’s riverfront.
As the city embarks on a significant redevelopment of its riverside and urban areas, the loss of these floating venues signals a profound shift in Belgrade’s identity and nightlife culture.
