Serbia and Azerbaijan have opened a new chapter in bilateral relations with the launch of the first direct flight between Belgrade and Baku. The inaugural flight was marked by an official ceremony, including a traditional water salute, symbolizing the establishment of a new air connection between the two countries.
The introduction of direct flights, currently scheduled twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays, comes amid steadily strengthening cooperation, particularly in the past decade.
Serbia and Azerbaijan are considered strategic partners, supporting each other on key international issues, while also significantly expanding economic ties, with trade exchange increasing substantially in recent years.
Officials highlighted that the new air route is expected to further boost business cooperation, tourism and people-to-people connections, especially given the already established visa-free regime between the two countries. The move is also seen as a concrete outcome of ongoing bilateral efforts and institutional cooperation, reinforcing long-term partnership and delivering tangible benefits for both economies.
