Serbia Sees E-Commerce Grow Into Major Profit Sector

What began as a rapid pandemic-era shift in consumer habits is increasingly becoming one of the country’s most significant business segments.

E-commerce in Serbia has continued to expand beyond the surge triggered during the COVID-19 pandemic, developing into a serious and increasingly profitable sector of the national economy. Analysts note that online shopping habits established during lockdown periods have largely remained in place, while businesses have continued investing in digital platforms, logistics and payment systems.

Industry representatives say the sector has become more professionalised in recent years, with stronger competition, improved delivery infrastructure and a broader range of products and services available online.

Growth has also been supported by rising digital literacy, wider use of electronic payments and changing consumer expectations focused on speed and convenience.

Experts believe Serbia’s digital commerce market still has considerable room for expansion compared to more developed European markets. Continued investment in technology, cybersecurity and consumer protection is expected to play an important role in shaping the sector’s next phase of growth.
