Serbia Changes Procurement Rules For Expo 2027 Projects

New regulations will simplify procedures for key infrastructure and development works.

Serbia is preparing changes to procurement regulations related to Expo 2027, introducing exemptions for certain procedures connected to the international exhibition and accompanying infrastructure projects. The updated rules are aimed at accelerating implementation and avoiding administrative delays.

The amendments are expected to apply to a range of works and services linked to Expo preparations, including construction, infrastructure development, and related strategic projects.

Officials argue that simplified procedures are necessary to ensure deadlines are met ahead of the event.

Critics, however, warn that reducing the scope of standard procurement rules could weaken transparency and oversight, particularly given the scale of public investment involved. The debate reflects broader discussions around balancing efficiency and accountability in large state-backed projects.
