Serbia has officially resumed direct flights to Toronto after a 34-year break, marking a significant step in strengthening ties with North America. Serbian officials described the reopening of the route as an important moment for the country’s international connectivity, economic relations and cooperation with the large Serbian community living in Canada.
The renewed air connection is expected to improve travel and business opportunities between the two countries while also bringing the diaspora closer to the region.
Officials noted that hundreds of thousands of people of Serbian origin, as well as citizens from across the Western Balkans living in Canada, will now have easier access to their homeland through the direct service.
The occasion also coincided with the first official visit by a Serbian foreign minister to Canada in more than a decade. Serbian representatives stated that the visit is intended to open a new chapter in bilateral relations and present Serbia’s economic progress, development priorities and international partnerships to Canadian institutions and business circles.
