Serbia Secures €720 Million Agreement for Belgrade Metro Expansion

Ambitious Infrastructure Project to Transform Public Transport in the Serbian Capital

The Serbian government, the City of Belgrade, and the Chinese company PowerChina have signed a €720 million contract for the second segment of the first phase of Belgrade Metro Line 1. The project is expected to revolutionize public transportation in the Serbian capital.

The agreement, which includes design, execution, and procurement of tunnel boring machines (TBM), has a timeline of 45 months for construction and an additional two years for completion. Funded entirely by the state budget, the project ensures an expedited development process for this phase.

Minister Darko Glišić highlighted the metro system’s transformative potential, spanning three lines across nine municipalities. “This project brings not just infrastructure improvements but also long-term economic and urban benefits for Belgrade and Serbia,” Glišić stated.

The Belgrade Metro is set to become a cornerstone of the city’s urban development strategy, addressing congestion and modernizing its public transport system.
