Renault has officially ended production of the Clio at its Revoz plant in Novo Mesto, bringing to a close one of the most significant chapters in Slovenia’s automotive industry. Since production began in 1993, the factory manufactured 2,251,416 Clios, making the model synonymous with Slovenian car production and one of the country’s most recognizable industrial success stories.
Over 33 years, Revoz assembled four generations of the Clio, with the second generation accounting for nearly 1.5 million units. The model consistently ranked among Slovenia’s best-selling cars and became known as the country’s “national car,” while the fifth-generation Clio was named Slovenian Car of the Year in 2020.
The Novo Mesto plant is now entering a new phase focused on electric mobility. Production has shifted to the Renault Twingo E-Tech, with around 300 vehicles currently rolling off the assembly line each day. According to Revoz, demand has exceeded expectations, with the electric city car recording the strongest order intake in Renault’s history on the Slovenian market during its first months on sale.
Looking ahead, the factory plans to expand production further by introducing a second shift in September and adding two more compact electric models based on the same platform, including the Dacia Spring and a new Nissan model. By the end of the year, daily output is expected to increase to around 500 electric vehicles, marking the beginning of a new era for one of Slovenia’s largest manufacturers.
