Albania Eyes Major Tourism Boost as Sazan Island Project Advances

Prime Minister Edi Rama says a potential investment involving Jared Kushner could transform Sazan Island into a key Mediterranean destination.

Speaking in Vlora, Rama confirmed that the government is in ongoing negotiations over a high-profile tourism project on Sazan Island, emphasizing that the island remains state-owned and has not been sold. The development is envisioned as a joint venture in which the Albanian state will retain a role, with plans focusing on limited construction and a strong cultural and artistic concept rather than exclusive or closed resort structures.

The project is expected to significantly elevate Albania’s position in the global tourism market, with Rama highlighting its potential to attract international attention and investment.

He also pointed to parallel private developments in the surrounding coastal area, involving renowned architects, as part of a broader transformation of the region.

Officials believe the initiative will drive a surge in property values and economic activity in Vlora, urging local tourism operators to raise service standards and adopt a long-term strategic approach. According to Rama, the next decade could bring more profound changes to the region than the previous ten years, positioning southern Albania as a major gateway for international tourism.
