Croatia is moving forward with an ambitious railway upgrade project connecting Čakovec, Varaždin and Koprivnica, aiming to improve regional connectivity and align its transport network with broader European standards. The modernization plan includes track reconstruction, upgraded signaling systems, and increased train speeds, which are expected to significantly reduce travel times across the northern corridor.
The project forms part of a wider national effort to revitalize rail infrastructure, supported in part by European Union funding mechanisms.
By strengthening links between key regional centers, the upgrade is expected to boost economic activity, facilitate cross-border movement, and provide a more sustainable alternative to road transport.
Once completed, the improved railway line will enhance both passenger and freight capacity, reinforcing Croatia’s position within regional transport networks and contributing to long-term mobility and environmental goals.
