The Council of the European Union has approved a third bilateral assistance package for the armed forces of Albania under the European Peace Facility (EPF), worth €21 million. With the latest measure, total EU support for Albania’s defence sector has now reached €49 million.
According to EU officials, the package is designed to improve the Albanian military’s rapid deployment capabilities and increase its contribution to European Union Common Security and Defence Policy missions, as well as broader international operations.
The assistance includes light armoured multi-purpose vehicles, tactical and engineering equipment, operational training and maintenance support services.
Kaja Kallas described Albania as a close and reliable partner in foreign and security policy, highlighting its role as a NATO ally and contributor to EU operations. Albanian Defence Minister Ermal Nufi welcomed the decision, calling it further recognition of Albania’s reliability and active role in regional and European security cooperation.
The first EU assistance package for Albania under the EPF was approved in 2024, followed by a second package in 2025.
