Croatian Hospitals Introduce First Robotic Surgery Assistant

The first robotic assistant in Croatian hospitals, on which twelve members of the medical staff will undergo training in a few months, is stationed in the operating theatre, with the training console located in the department where doctors began exercises on Thursday.

At the beginning of the week, the Hugo RAS robot, the first of its kind in Croatia, arrived at the Clinic for Surgery of the Split University Hospital Centre. It will soon assist doctors during surgeries and is valued at 5.6 million euros.

The robotic surgery system has been installed, calibrated, and tested, and a simulation training for part of the staff has been conducted. Currently, the medical staff is being trained to work with Hugo, and the first operations are expected in March next year.

The head of the Clinic for Surgery at the Split University Hospital Centre, Zdravko Perko, told Hina that it is a device that allows for minimally invasive surgeries. It’s an advanced technology, which is why the hospital expects better patient treatment outcomes, especially for those with the most severe conditions.”
