Croatia and China Seek to Strengthen Trade and Infrastructure Cooperation

The meeting took place at Banski dvori during Wang’s official visit to Croatia, ahead of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Zagreb to discuss bilateral relations, economic cooperation and international developments. Both sides expressed satisfaction with what they described as friendly relations and discussed opportunities to expand their economic and trade ties. Plenković highlighted the importance of strengthening connections between Croatian and Chinese companies and increasing the presence of Croatian businesses in the Chinese market.

Infrastructure and energy projects were also a key focus of the talks.

Plenković cited the Pelješac Bridge as a symbol of successful cooperation, while Chinese companies are involved in other major Croatian projects, including the Kozjak Tunnel and Vučevica access road, the Brestovac–Godinjak expressway, the Senj wind farm and the Korlat solar power plant.

The two officials also welcomed the recently established Beijing–Bucharest–Zagreb air route, which is expected to support tourism links between Croatia and China. Their discussions additionally covered current international and regional challenges, including the situation in Ukraine and developments in the Middle East, reflecting the broader diplomatic agenda accompanying the visit.
