A new exhibition dedicated to Bernard Vukas, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in the history of Hajduk Split and Croatian football, has opened in Split. The exhibition offers visitors a look into the life and career of the legendary forward through photographs, memorabilia, trophies, personal items and archival documents.
Organised to preserve the legacy of one of Hajduk’s most celebrated players, the exhibition traces Vukas’ rise from local football to becoming an international star. During his career, he helped Hajduk win multiple domestic titles and earned recognition as one of Europe’s finest footballers in the post-war era.
Often remembered for his exceptional technical ability, creativity and elegance on the pitch, Vukas represented Yugoslavia at the highest level and was selected to play for a FIFA representative team alongside some of the world’s greatest players – an honour reserved for only a handful of footballers of his generation.
The exhibition also highlights Vukas’ enduring impact on Croatian sporting culture and the identity of Hajduk Split, whose rich history remains closely tied to many of the region’s greatest football legends. By preserving stories such as his, organisers aim to introduce younger generations to one of the players who helped shape football in Southeast Europe long before the modern era of the sport.
