In a pivotal moment for Montenegro’s energy landscape, the Pljevlja Power Plant enters the final phase of its €70 million ecological overhaul.
The ambitious modernisation project, backed by Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), aims to ensure the plant’s long-term viability while meeting stringent environmental standards.
As of 31 March 2025, the plant will temporarily halt operations for seven months, enabling critical upgrades, including the installation of advanced equipment largely sourced from China.
Over 90% of the materials have already arrived, with final shipments expected by June.
During this period, EPCG will import energy to offset the loss of local production, ensuring no disruption for consumers.
The overhaul promises not only enhanced environmental compliance but also secures the long-term stability of the nation’s energy supply.
Additionally, the plant’s transformation is aligned with broader regional efforts, including a concurrent district heating project aimed at improving living conditions in Pljevlja.
EPCG’s continued focus on energy security, ecological responsibility, and community welfare underscores Montenegro’s commitment to a sustainable future.
