Montenegro is emerging as a regional leader in renewable energy, leveraging its natural resources and new legal frameworks aimed at attracting green investments.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić recently met with executives from Masdar, a UAE-based global clean energy leader, to discuss strengthening collaboration and accelerating the country’s energy transition.
With new legislation in place, Montenegro aims to achieve 50% renewable energy in its total consumption by 2030, aligning with Energy Community targets.
The framework is designed to streamline project approvals, reduce energy costs, and diversify the economy.
Masdar, already operating the Krnovo wind farm in Montenegro—providing power to 45,000 households and cutting 80,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually—plans to expand its involvement in the region.
This partnership is a critical step in Montenegro’s goal to become a clean energy powerhouse in the Balkans, setting the stage for a greener, more sustainable future in the region.
