This strategic project, announced by Minister of Transport Maja Vukićević, promises to deliver safer, faster, and more comfortable journeys by rerouting traffic away from Cetinje’s congested city center.
“The new road will serve as a crucial bypass, allowing travelers heading to Lovćen National Park, Njeguši, and other nearby tourist destinations to bypass the town entirely,” Vukićević explained. “This diversion is expected to reduce traffic jams and enhance safety for all road users.”
This new corridor—Nikšić-Čevo-Cetinje-Njeguši-Kotor—will significantly ease pressure on the current Kotor-Budva-Cetinje-Podgorica route, notorious for its heavy summer traffic.
In a broader vision for Montenegro’s road network, the planned completion of the Čevo-Nikšić and Krstac-Kotor routes will establish a vital connection between the central and southern regions
The Ministry of Transport highlighted that the project, alongside the planned reconstruction of the Donji Ulići-Rijeka Crnojevića road, will comprehensively upgrade Cetinje’s network of regional and main roads. This, in turn, is expected to bolster the town’s connectivity with the rest of Montenegro, laying the groundwork for economic development in the region.
In closing, the Ministry issued a reminder to all drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and ensure they are well-rested before hitting the road, underlining that road safety is a collective responsibility.
As Cetinje prepares for this new chapter, the promise of smoother, safer, and more efficient travel beckons—a reminder that even the smallest of detours can lead to the most significant of changes.
