Wizz Air Submits Over 21,000 Signatures to Preserve Belgrade Base

The airline has formally delivered a citizens’ petition to Serbian authorities, calling for the preservation of its operational base at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport.

Wizz Air has submitted more than 21,000 signatures collected through a public petition urging the preservation of its base and continued operations in Belgrade, highlighting strong public support for maintaining the airline’s presence in Serbia.

The petition was delivered to the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, as well as other relevant institutions, with supporters arguing that Wizz Air’s operations have significantly improved connectivity, expanded travel options and contributed to more affordable air transport for Serbian citizens.

According to the company, maintaining its base in Belgrade is important not only for passengers but also for tourism, business travel and the wider economy. The airline emphasized that the petition reflects the interests of thousands of travelers who rely on its network of low-cost routes connecting Serbia with destinations across Europe.

The future of Wizz Air’s base has attracted considerable public attention in recent months amid changes in the airline’s operations and growing competition in the regional aviation market. Industry observers note that low-cost carriers have played a key role in increasing passenger traffic across Southeast Europe over the past decade, making the outcome of discussions between the airline and Serbian authorities significant for the country’s aviation sector and future connectivity.
