North Macedonia Focuses on Boosting Wine Production and Exports

North Macedonia stregthening efforts to enhance wine production

North Macedonia is strengthening its efforts to enhance wine production and exports, with viticulture playing a pivotal role in the country’s economic strategy.

Cvetan Tripunovski, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, highlighted this commitment during the Wine Vision by Open Balkan fair in Belgrade.

Currently ranked 22nd globally in wine production and 29th in exports, North Macedonia’s wine industry generated over €57 million in exports in 2023, reaching more than 40 countries, primarily within the Balkans.

This year’s Wine Vision fair featured 650 exhibitors from 37 countries, including 80 Macedonian wineries, with 68 being small, family-owned businesses. Minister Tripunovski emphasized the government’s ongoing support for the wine sector, which he described as the nation’s second most important economic pillar.

A collaborative stand at the fair, organized by the tourism bodies of Serbia, North Macedonia, and Albania, further highlighted the region’s cultural and tourism appeal, showcasing the potential for greater regional cooperation and promotion.
