Kosovo* Poised to Break Wheat Yield Records in 2024

Kosovo* is on track to achieve a record-breaking wheat harvest this year, with experts and officials alike expressing optimism about both the quantity and quality of the crop

The Ministry of Agriculture has forecasted that 2024 will surpass previous years in wheat production, a sentiment echoed by Professor Imer Rusinovci of the University of Prishtina, who noted a significant improvement over last year’s yields.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Development, Imri Demelezi, emphasized that this year’s favorable conditions contrast sharply with 2023, when frequent rains hampered wheat production. Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Faton Peci took to Facebook to highlight that 2024 is shaping up to be a record-setting year for Kosovo’s agriculture, particularly in cereal crops.

Last year, Kosovo* planted 100,000 hectares of cereals, including 66,000 hectares of wheat, yet the yields were insufficient to meet the country’s needs. With the current harvest, the country is expected to not only meet but potentially exceed its wheat requirements, marking a significant milestone in Kosovo’s post-war agricultural development.
