In a significant step towards energy self-sufficiency, Serbia and Hungary have completed technical preparations for the construction of a new oil pipeline, with work expected to begin by the end of 2025.
Stretching from Novi Sad in Serbia to the Hungarian border, this 113-kilometre route will connect to Hungary’s extensive oil network, ensuring a steady supply to Serbia’s vital Pančevo refinery.
Both nations aim to have the project fully operational by 2028, marking a milestone in their strategic energy collaboration.
This pipeline is part of a broader effort to reduce reliance on external energy sources, bolstering stability in a region increasingly affected by the Ukraine conflict.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó emphasised the importance of regional cooperation, stating that without such projects, energy security for both countries would be far less certain.
