EU to Launch Probe into Chinese Retail Platform Temu over Potential Sale of Illegal Products

The European Commission is preparing to investigate Chinese online retailer Temu, probing whether the platform is violating EU rules designed to prevent the sale of illegal goods online

This move follows an inquiry sent to Temu on October 11 under the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), which seeks clarification on the steps Temu is taking to curb illegal product sales on its platform.

Under the DSA, any platform with over 45 million users is categorized as a “very large online platform” and faces additional obligations to combat unlawful content, including counterfeit products.

The investigation will assess whether Temu is meeting these stringent requirements, highlighting the EU’s commitment to consumer protection and fair market practices.
