Zagreb – The Rules for Travelling With Dogs on Trams and Buses

Passengers travelling with dogs on public transport in Zagreb must follow specific rules depending on their pet’s size, according to the city’s public transport operator, ZET

The company has published an educational video to remind pet owners how to travel safely and ensure a comfortable journey for all passengers.

Small dogs up to 30 centimetres tall, as well as cats and other small domestic animals, can travel free of charge, provided they remain inside suitable transport carriers throughout the journey. Larger dogs are also permitted on board, but must wear a muzzle and be kept on a short lead. Owners must purchase an additional ticket for these animals. Pet owners are required to board through the front doors and remain in the front section of the vehicle.

Each passenger may bring only one pet and must carry the necessary documentation, including proof of registration and rabies vaccination for dogs. Owners are also responsible for their animals’ behaviour and must clean up any mess they cause.

Separate provisions apply to assistance dogs, including guide, rehabilitation and therapy dogs, as well as dogs undergoing training and puppies participating in socialisation programmes. These animals must wear official harnesses identifying their role. ZET says the rules are intended to make journeys safer and more comfortable for both passengers and their pets.
