Serbia has embarked on its first hydrogen pilot project, HyDSerbia, in collaboration with Leipzig-based Leipziger Energiegesellschaft.
Backed by funding from the German government as part of its National Hydrogen Strategy, the initiative aims to pave the way for large-scale hydrogen production and export from Serbia.
HyDSerbia, officially titled “Construction and Operation of an Integrated H2 Pilot Plant as a Precursor of Large-Scale Industrial Production and Export of Green Hydrogen and Derivatives,” is set to run from December 2022 to June 2026, with an approved budget of EUR 3.5 million.
The project explores the feasibility of hydrogen production across various sites in Serbia, bolstered by a recent feasibility study conducted by Germany’s Fraunhofer-Center für Silizium-Photovoltaik.
The study, spanning from October 2023 to July 2024, lays essential groundwork for what could become a cornerstone of Serbia’s green industrial future.
