Kosovo* Lifts Partial Ban on Serbian Goods Ahead of Key Regional Talks

The Kosovo* government has announced a partial lifting of its year-long ban on Serbian imports, restricted to the Merdare border crossing, where goods will now be subject to strict inspections

Prime Minister Albin Kurti clarified that the ban remains in effect at other crossings until comprehensive scanning equipment is installed to ensure security.

This move, ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Berlin Process and the upcoming CEFTA meeting, is seen as a critical step towards improving regional cooperation and easing longstanding trade tensions in the Western Balkans.

The decision follows significant mediation efforts from Germany, which has pushed for a compromise to break the deadlock between Pristina and Belgrade.

The lifting of the ban at Merdare marks a tentative thaw in relations and raises hopes for further advancements in trade dialogue during the upcoming summits as the region looks to bolster economic ties and resolve political disputes that have hampered progress.
