Jones said the UK and Montenegro will continue working closely as NATO allies, particularly in areas including defence, the fight against organised crime and strengthening resilience to cyber threats.
One of her key priorities will be supporting Montenegro’s European path, including reforms aimed at strengthening the rule of law and institutions. She also highlighted the importance of an independent judiciary, protection of citizens’ rights and creating a safer environment for investment and opportunities for young people.
Jones, a career diplomat with more than 20 years of experience, has previously served in several European countries, including Germany, Austria, Greece, Italy, the Czech Republic and Poland. She also emphasised the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties between the UK and Montenegro through education, scholarships, cultural exchanges and cooperation between universities.
During her first public address, Jones spoke in Montenegrin, Welsh and English, saying that learning the local language would help her better understand Montenegro and its people.
