Speaking with representatives of German media and the International Journalists’ Programme (IJP), Montenegrin officials stressed that the country’s EU integration is not only a matter of meeting deadlines and closing negotiating chapters, but also of delivering tangible results for citizens. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the rule of law, ensuring independent institutions and protecting fundamental rights.
The fight against corruption remains another key priority, with Montenegro seeking more final convictions, particularly in high-level corruption and organised crime cases. Authorities stressed that progress in these areas must demonstrate that no one is above the law and serve as a key test of the country’s readiness for EU membership.
Montenegro also highlighted its full alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy as evidence of its European commitment. The country aims to enter the bloc as a reliable and responsible member that not only shares European values but is also prepared to contribute to common European security and stability.
The upcoming EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat and the first visit by a German Chancellor to Montenegro were described as strong signs of renewed momentum in the country’s European integration process. Germany, in particular, remains one of Montenegro’s key partners on its path towards EU membership.
