Croatia and Czechia Reaffirm Strong Bilateral Ties

Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman welcomed Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka to Zagreb for talks focused on bilateral cooperation, European security and the future of EU enlargement, reaffirming the close partnership between the two countries

During the meeting, the ministers emphasized the strong friendship and excellent bilateral relations between Croatia and Czechia, discussing a broad range of issues including European security and defence, the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework, energy security and the European Union’s enlargement policy, with particular attention to the Western Balkans.

Both sides also underlined the importance of continued cooperation within the European Union and NATO, while welcoming the further strengthening of defence and police cooperation. They additionally highlighted the Croatian minority in Czechia and the Czech minority in Croatia as an important bridge connecting the two nations and contributing to their longstanding partnership.

The visit forms part of a broader regional diplomatic tour by Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, who has also held meetings in Serbia and Montenegro. The itinerary reflects Prague’s growing diplomatic engagement with the Western Balkans at a time when regional stability, security and the enlargement process remain high on the European agenda.

For the countries of the Western Balkans, such visits carry particular significance. It is encouraging to see an EU member state actively investing diplomatic attention in the region, maintaining direct dialogue with its partners and reaffirming support for their European perspective. At a time when the enlargement process has regained momentum, sustained engagement from member states such as Czechia sends an important signal that the Western Balkans remain an integral part of the European Union’s long-term strategic vision.
