EU Launches Free Public Wi-Fi Project Across Bosnia and Herzegovina

The initiative will provide free internet access in 116 municipalities throughout the country.

European Union officials, together with local representatives, officially launched the rollout of free public Wi-Fi networks in 116 municipalities across Bosnia and Herzegovina during an event in Banja Luka. The project is financed by the European Union and Germany and aims to improve digital connectivity in public spaces such as squares, parks, museums, and community areas.

The launch was attended by Banja Luka Mayor Draško Stanivuković and Transport and Communications Minister Edin Forto.

Officials emphasized that the initiative demonstrates the practical benefits of closer cooperation with the EU and highlights how proactive municipalities can directly benefit from European programmes.

EU representatives noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path is ultimately about improving everyday life for citizens, pointing to EU-backed investments in infrastructure, schools, healthcare, renewable energy and public spaces across the country. The project was also presented as part of broader efforts to strengthen Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration and digital development.
