North Macedonian President Siljanovska Davkova Hails Strong Relations with Serbia

North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova lauded the strong and cooperative relationship with Serbia during her visit, highlighting mutual solidarity and regional cooperation

North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova expressed her satisfaction following a visit to Serbia and a meeting with President Aleksandar Vučić, highlighting the exemplary good-neighbourly relations between the two countries. The visit, underscored by a mutual desire for solidarity, reaffirmed the importance of regional cooperation.

During a press conference with Vučić, held after their meeting and a tour of the St Prohor Pčinjski monastery near Vranje, southern Serbia, Siljanovska Davkova emphasized the necessity of mutual understanding and support within the region.

“As you know, I am a great advocate of regional cooperation. I am confident that, unless we understand each other and help each other, we cannot expect others to understand us. That is why we need to do our part of the work and solve problems that exist between us, and not allow others to solve them,” Siljanovska Davkova stated.

The visit to the monastery was particularly significant as it coincided with the celebration of St Elijah’s Day, North Macedonia’s national holiday.

Siljanovska Davkova expressed her delight at the hospitality she received and underscored the visit’s importance. “It has already been mentioned that, for us, this is not an ordinary holiday, because it is the day when the anti-fascist assembly of Macedonia’s national liberation was established (in 1944),” she noted.

Marking her first trip to Serbia as North Macedonia’s president, Siljanovska Davkova conveyed her certainty that it would not be her last. She extended heartfelt gratitude to Serbia for its assistance in combating recent forest fires in North Macedonia and praised the enduring good-neighbourly relations grounded in solidarity. She also voiced her expectations for continued and lasting cooperation between the two nations.
