Bosnia Moves Closer to Southern Gas Interconnection

Bosnia and Herzegovina is taking a crucial step towards energy diversification with plans for the Southern Gas Interconnection pipeline

By the end of December, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) Parliament is expected to adopt the Southern Gas Interconnection Law, paving the way for the construction of a gas pipeline from Croatia, through Western Herzegovina, to central Bosnia.

The Southern Interconnection would help reduce Bosnia’s dependence on Russian gas, which currently flows through the Turkish Stream pipeline via the eastern border at Zvornik.

This was the conclusion of today’s meeting between Alexander Kasanof, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, and U.S. Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Michael Murphy, with parliamentary caucus leaders in the FBiH Parliament.
