Hungary Pledges Support to BiH’s European Path with New Action Plan

Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina have inked an Action Plan to bolster Sarajevo's European Union accession efforts, marking a new chapter in diplomatic cooperation between the two nations

In a significant gesture of solidarity and support, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina have forged a closer partnership aimed at facilitating Bosnia’s journey towards European Union integration. The foreign ministers of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, today signed an Action Plan that underscores Hungary’s commitment to assist Bosnia and Herzegovina through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Elmedin Konakovic expressed his gratitude for Hungary’s offer, highlighting the importance of the assistance in navigating the challenges that Bosnia and Herzegovina will face post-March, as it anticipates the commencement of EU accession talks. “Hungary has extended its support, and we are delighted to accept this kind of help, particularly in addressing the issues we will encounter following the expected opening of negotiations with the EU,” Konakovic stated.

In a move to strengthen diplomatic ties and expertise, Szijjártó proposed training for approximately 50 young Bosnian diplomats at the Hungarian diplomatic academy. He voiced his pride in Hungary’s ability to contribute to the stability and security of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This initiative not only highlights Hungary’s role in supporting its neighbor’s European aspirations but also emphasizes the importance of education and capacity building in fostering diplomatic and international relations expertise among the youth of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
