EU’s €70M Energy Support Package Boosts Bosnia and Herzegovina

The European Union's Energy Support Package has allocated €70 million in grants to Bosnia and Herzegovina to tackle the energy crisis and enhance energy efficiency.

The package dedicates 50 million euros to aid about 190,000 vulnerable households and 20 million euros for energy efficiency improvements in around 4,000 homes and 400 small to medium-sized enterprises.

The EU Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina launched the “Connected through Good” media campaign, running until February 2024, to raise public awareness. The campaign, spanning electronic, social, and online media, as well as billboard advertising, includes informative sessions about the opportunities the package offers.

Significantly, this initiative marks the first time Bosnia and Herzegovina’s authorities are receiving direct budget support from the EU for fund distribution to citizens. The distribution process, targeted to complete by April 2024, is pivotal for future EU support.

In Republika Srpska, around 67,000 households have received EU funds. The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Brčko District are also distributing funds to eligible households. Additionally, various public calls have been announced across the region to allocate EU funds for residential and enterprise energy efficiency projects.
