Serbia-Bulgaria Gas Pipeline Completed, Boosting European Energy Security

All work on the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector has been completed, enabling more secure and stable gas supply from various sources, especially from Azerbaijan, stated the Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, while touring the facilities.

The Serbia-Bulgaria pipeline is the first major energy project to be completed on time, in 12 months, with 109 kilometres of new pipeline laid, four metering and regulation stations in Pirot, Dimitrovgrad, Bela Palanka, and Niš, as well as a large transfer station in Trupale,” said Đedović Handanović, adding that she expects the pipeline to begin trial operation by the end of the week.

The Minister reminded that a contract for interconnection with Bulgartransgas has been signed, as well as a commercial contract for the supply of up to 400 million cubic metres of gas from Azerbaijan until the end of next year.

Furthermore, she pointed out the importance of the Serbia-Bulgaria gas pipeline for the gasification of the southeastern part of Serbia and the green transition process, noting that this project strengthens Serbia’s position on the European gas map, as the Serbia-Bulgaria pipeline, with a capacity of 1.8 billion cubic metres, also allows for the transit of gas from Azerbaijan and the Caspian region to Central European countries.
