Varhelyi: EC Ready to Recommend EU Council to Open Negotiations with BiH

European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi today expressed hope that the European Council will be able to approve the commencement of negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for EU membership in March.

At a joint press conference with the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto, following the Second High-Level Political Forum on European Integrations of BiH in Brussels, he stated that additional progress in reforms and key commitments is necessary.

The European Commission is prepared to recommend to the EU Council to open negotiations once these are fulfilled.

“We hope to come again, say in March, with new progress and hope that negotiations can then commence,” Varhelyi emphasised, as reported by RTRS.
