Serbia Advances Energy Integration and Supply Diversification

Government steps focus on long-term stability and closer alignment with EU energy markets.

Serbia is intensifying efforts to strengthen energy security and system stability through closer cooperation with the European Commission. Authorities say the focus is on diversifying supply routes and ensuring long-term resilience, particularly in the gas and oil sectors.

Concrete steps include the operational interconnector with Bulgaria, which already enables gas imports from Azerbaijan, as well as planned connections with North Macedonia and Romania.

At the same time, Serbia is expanding its gas infrastructure and storage capacities, aiming to secure a stable and sustainable energy supply in the years ahead.

In parallel, Serbia is moving toward integration with the EU’s electricity market, becoming the first country in the region to reach this stage. Officials expect confirmation from European institutions, which would mark a significant step toward greater efficiency, security, and alignment with the broader European energy framework.
