The meeting focused on Montenegro’s European integration path, reform agenda and regional cooperation, with Ibrahimović expressing gratitude for Germany’s continued support for Montenegro’s efforts to advance its EU ambitions.
Germany has long been one of Montenegro’s important European partners, supporting the country’s reform process and its efforts to strengthen democratic institutions, the rule of law and economic development. Berlin has also been a strong advocate of greater regional cooperation and stability in the Western Balkans.
The two countries maintain close political and economic relations, while Germany is also an important trading and investment partner for Montenegro. Cooperation extends across areas including infrastructure, business, tourism, energy and development, alongside support provided through European and bilateral programmes.
Montenegro is currently the most advanced EU candidate country in the Western Balkans in terms of accession negotiations, making continued support from key EU member states particularly important as Podgorica works to complete reforms and move closer to membership.
The arrival of Ambassador Gansen comes at a significant stage in Montenegro’s European integration process. His mandate is expected to further strengthen political dialogue between Podgorica and Berlin and support cooperation on Montenegro’s reform priorities.
Ibrahimović said Montenegro looks forward to further deepening its partnership with Germany, particularly through continued cooperation on reforms, European integration and regional initiatives.
