Slovenia Reaffirms Support For Montenegro’s EU Accession

Latest developments confirm Montenegro’s position as the most advanced EU candidate in the region.

Officials from Montenegro and Slovenia held talks focused on the final phase of Montenegro’s EU accession process, highlighting strong bilateral cooperation and shared strategic priorities. Maida Gorčević met with Anžej Frangeš, Slovenia’s special envoy for the Western Balkans and addressed key steps needed to complete negotiations.

Discussions centered on the closing stages of accession talks and further reforms aimed at strengthening Montenegro’s position as the most advanced candidate for European Union membership. This progress was reinforced by the adoption of a positive report on Montenegro by the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, signaling continued support from EU institutions.

Slovenia has consistently backed Montenegro’s European integration, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and enlargement policy. The two countries maintain close political and economic ties, with Ljubljana seen as a strong advocate for the Western Balkans within the EU.

Montenegro’s ongoing progress reflects broader efforts to align with EU standards, with officials stressing that continued reforms and international support will be key to completing the accession process in the coming period.
