Power Surge in Zagreb: Končar and Siemens Energy to Spark 260M Euro Expansion

Croatia’s capital gears up for a high-voltage industrial revival as two energy giants power a major jobs boost and capacity surge

In a bold move to meet soaring global demand for energy infrastructure, Croatian firm Končar and its long-time partner Siemens Energy will invest €260 million to expand their transformer production facility in Zagreb’s Jankomir district.

The expansion, set to break ground in 2026, will create 350 new jobs—250 on the factory floor and 100 for specialised experts—while boosting annual production capacity from 30,000 MW to 45,000 MW by 2031.

This is more than just industrial growth—it’s a reaffirmation of Croatia’s strategic role in Europe’s energy transition.

Končar and Siemens Energy, partners since 1995, are already global players in transformer production.

Their newly formed joint venture, Končar – Transformatorski kotlovi, aims to further strengthen that position by manufacturing critical transformer components, with a second factory in Sesvetski Kraljevec opening this October and employing over 400 people.

For a region striving to future-proof its economy, this investment is not just timely—it’s transformative.
