New Routes to Barcelona and Lyon Take Off

After a three-year pause, Skopje is soaring once again toward Spain

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air, in partnership with TAV Macedonia and backed by government subsidies, is reviving its route to Barcelona and launching a brand-new connection to Lyon.

The Barcelona service resumes on 3 May with twice-weekly flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Lyon, a debut destination for Skopje, will be served three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The inaugural Barcelona flight departs this Saturday at 18:50, and in a dash of digital flair, two lucky passengers will fly for free thanks to a social media giveaway.

Nejat Kurt, TAV Macedonia’s CEO, hailed the return as a triumph of collaboration, projecting greater success for the route than ever before.

He praised Lyon as a “UNESCO city of film and food”—an irresistible draw for culture and cuisine lovers alike.

Looking ahead, Skopje aims to expand further across Europe, with Prague, Madrid, and Cyprus’s Larnaca in its sights. Meanwhile, a postponed Flydubai service to Dubai is expected to launch in autumn, with visa-free travel to the UAE likely to boost demand.
