Bosnian Businesses Surge for Sustainability

With a surge in applications, Bosnian companies are showing that sustainability is no longer just for the corporate giants – it’s a mission for businesses of all sizes.

In a remarkable display of commitment to sustainable practices, 484 companies have entered the race for the 2025 Business Leaders in Sustainable Development Award in Bosnia and Herzegovina, marking a 35% increase from last year.

The diverse pool of applicants ranges from micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees to large corporations, highlighting the widespread embrace of sustainability across sectors.

Notable trends include over half of the applicants (56.36%) reducing plastic use, many adopting circular economy practices, and actively working to minimise food waste.

Social issues, particularly gender equality, also emerged, with 31.82% of companies having women in more than 55% of top leadership roles.

This surge in interest underscores a growing recognition that sustainable development is not merely a corporate buzzword but a critical pathway to future-proofing businesses of all sizes.

The awards, part of a UNDP initiative funded by Sweden, will see winners announced in June.
