North Macedonia First to Secure EU Reform Funds

A significant step forward for North Macedonia, as it becomes the first nation in the region to secure funds under the EU's Reform and Growth Instrument for the Western Balkans.

North Macedonia has set a precedent for the Western Balkans by becoming the first country in the region to receive pre-financing under the European Commission’s Instrument for Reform and Growth.

Minister for European Affairs Orhan Murtezani announced the country had secured €52.4 million, representing seven percent of its total €750 million financial aid package.

This disbursement is the result of a request Murtezani submitted last November, highlighting the nation’s commitment to the Reform Agenda.

Murtezani emphasized that the funds were granted due to North Macedonia’s successful completion of required legal procedures, including the ratification of the Loan and Grant Agreements.

Additionally, the country has already demonstrated substantial reform progress, submitting a request for the release of €17.1 million for ongoing reforms, with the European Commission granting an extension until February 2025.

This marks a crucial milestone as North Macedonia continues to advance its EU integration efforts.
