Bojana Bridge Project Delayed

The proposed bridge connecting Montenegro and Albania has been delayed indefinitely due to planning setbacks.

The long-awaited infrastructure project to build a bridge over the Bojana River connecting Montenegro and Albania is at risk of further delays.

The joint initiative, which would shorten travel time between Ulcinj and Velipoja from 73 kilometers to just one, is stalled due to ongoing planning issues.

Despite initial optimism and a projected cost of 20 million euros, only 5,000 euros have been allocated in Montenegro’s 2025 budget for the project.

The primary obstacle: the lack of an approved Spatial Plan for Montenegro (PPCG), which is essential before any construction can begin.

The bridge, which could boost tourism and trade, is waiting for the formation of a joint committee to oversee planning, contractor selection, and project implementation. Both governments have committed to equally sharing the construction costs.
