Rebeka Kropivšek Leskovar Named 2024 Woman Engineer of the Year

Interblock development engineer honored for her innovative work in machine vision technology

Rebeka Kropivšek Leskovar, a development engineer at Interblock, a global leader in electronic table gaming products, has been awarded the prestigious title of Woman Engineer of the Year for 2024.

Kropivšek Leskovar’s passion for technology began in childhood, when she would dismantle phones, sketch comics, and immerse herself in science fiction. Her fascination deepened during a computer science summer school, where she discovered robotics and charted her future career path.

After completing her studies in mechatronics at the Ljubljana Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, she pursued a master’s degree in information and communication technologies at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School. At Interblock, she now focuses on developing human-centric applications of machine vision technologies.

“New technologies must be developed in line with the needs and realities of today’s society,” she said upon receiving the award in Ljubljana. Highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary approaches, she stressed that collaboration between science and the humanities is vital to understanding the long-term impacts of technology on people.

Now in its seventh year, the Woman Engineer of the Year competition is organized by the technology magazine IRT3000 and marketing agency Mediade, in partnership with industry leaders. The initiative aims to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, technology, science, and innovation.
