Montenegro Utilizes 90% of IPARD II Funds for Agricultural Development

Montenegro Emerges as Regional Leader in EU Agricultural Funding

Montenegro has established itself as a standout performer in utilising EU agricultural development funds, securing nearly 90% of the €39 million allocated under the IPARD II program. This achievement underscores the country’s ability to leverage European Union resources effectively, boosting its agricultural and rural development sectors.

The program has delivered approximately €35 million directly to farmers and processors across Montenegro through targeted measures. These funds have been pivotal in modernising agricultural practices, improving production capabilities, and fostering rural economic growth. The near-full utilisation of available resources comes as a remarkable turnaround, given concerns just a year ago about the potential loss of €11 million due to underuse.

Looking ahead, the momentum is set to continue with the IPARD III program. This year alone, over 900 applications have been submitted in response to four public calls, reflecting heightened interest from Montenegro’s agricultural community. The significant demand signals a readiness among farmers and businesses to further embrace modernisation and align with EU standards.

By strategically directing available funds to those who need them most, Montenegro has demonstrated how well-planned and executed initiatives can overcome challenges and deliver tangible benefits. This success serves as a model for neighbouring countries seeking to maximise the impact of EU support.
