Montenegro’s EPCG Invests €42.66 Million in Energy Sector, Focuses on Renewables

Elektroprivreda (EPCG) invested €42.66 million in Montenegro's energy sector last year, with a strong emphasis on renewable energy and modernization

This marks a slight decrease from the previous year’s €47.3 million. Key investments include €16.13 million in the “Solar 3000+” and “Solar 500+” projects, and €12.46 million in the ecological overhaul of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant (TPP).

EPCG also committed €11.9 million to development and engineering, notably refurbishing the Perućica Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) and advancing the Gvozd Wind Farm project. The latter secured an €82 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), supporting Montenegro’s shift towards decarbonization.

The Montenegrin Electric Distribution System (CEDIS) reported €14.52 million in investments, falling short of the approved €36.87 million due to property and procurement challenges. Nevertheless, CEDIS made significant infrastructure acquisitions, continuing to address legacy plans.

Despite these challenges, Montenegro produced 4,046.71 GWh of electricity last year, with the Pljevlja TPP contributing 37.64 percent of the total energy mix. EPCG’s focus on renewable projects signals a pivotal shift towards a greener energy future for the nation.
