Republika Srpska Calls for Greater Domestic Responsibility in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Officials in Republika Srpska have reiterated their position that political processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina should be led by domestic institutions and representatives of the country’s constituent peoples, rather than by international actors.

In a statement, the entity’s representatives argued that key decisions concerning Bosnia and Herzegovina should be made through dialogue among domestic political actors and institutions at all levels of government. They maintained that responsibility for the country’s future should rest with democratically elected representatives rather than external authorities, including the Office of the High Representative (OHR).

The statement further claimed that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s constitutional order has been undermined over the years through decisions imposed by unelected international officials, calling for a return to the principles of constitutionality and the rule of law. According to the officials, such practices should be discontinued and their long-term consequences reassessed.
