Bosnia and Egypt Sign Landmark Tourism Pact to Boost Ties and Investment

Direct flights and lifted visa regimes could turn friendly diplomacy into flourishing tourism

In a move poised to elevate tourism ties between North Africa and the Balkans, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Egypt signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Sarajevo today, signalling a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.

Staša Košarac, Bosnia’s Deputy Chair of the Council of Ministers, welcomed Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, as the two countries agreed to deepen collaboration in tourism development and investment.

The memorandum lays the groundwork for shared expertise, joint infrastructure ventures, and the formation of a bilateral tourism working group.

Košarac highlighted Bosnia’s diverse tourism offer—from winter resorts like Jahorina to spa and religious tourism—while Fathy recalled his productive talks with RS Minister Denis Šulić on the snowy slopes just a day earlier.

Both ministers championed the lifting of visa requirements and the launch of direct flights as next steps, aiming to unlock untapped potential.

Looking ahead, EXPO 2027 in Belgrade was hailed as a key stage for showcasing attractions. A return visit to Egypt by a Bosnian delegation is now on the horizon.
