New Podgorica Bucharest Air Link

A long-awaited direct flight between Montenegro and Romania could soon take off, unlocking fresh opportunities for tourism and economic ties

In a move poised to bridge a long-standing gap in Balkan air connectivity, Montenegro and Romania are edging closer to launching a direct flight route between their capitals, Podgorica and Bucharest.

The initiative took centre stage during a recent meeting between Montenegro’s Minister of Transport, Maja Vukićević, and Romanian Ambassador Viorel Ardeleanu.

Despite growing demand, the two nations remain without a direct air link.

But with legal frameworks already in place through the ECAA agreement, both sides are eager to move from talk to takeoff.

A ministerial summit between the two countries is now on the cards to accelerate planning and finalise logistics.

The proposed route is seen as a strategic boost for tourism and economic exchange.

With Romanian travellers increasingly eyeing Montenegro’s Adriatic allure, and trade relations warming, the flight could provide a much-needed bridge.

Ambassador Ardeleanu extended an official invitation to Minister Vukićević to visit Romania, signalling a shared commitment to deeper bilateral ties.
