EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos Visits Albania

Kos’s visit marks a pivotal moment for Albania’s EU ambitions, focusing on judicial reforms, the rule of law, and the region’s future integration into Europe.

Marta Kos, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, embarks on her inaugural visit to Albania from March 12-14, a trip that holds significant weight for the country’s EU accession prospects.

Kos will engage with key Albanian officials, including Prime Minister Edi Rama, Chief Negotiator Majlinda Dhuka, and Parliament Speaker Elisa Spiropali, to evaluate the current state of Albania’s EU integration talks.

With a keen eye on judicial reforms and the rule of law, her mission seeks to ensure that tangible progress is made, emphasizing the merit-based nature of the enlargement process.

Kos will also visit EU-funded projects in Elbasan, focusing on initiatives that support victims of gender-based violence and young people engaged in cross-border dialogue through the Western Balkans school exchange programme.

Her address to students at the College of Europe in Tirana will highlight the crucial role of civil society and youth in shaping the region’s future.

A joint press conference with Rama on March 13 will be broadcast live, marking a key moment in Albania’s EU journey.
