Slovenian President Appoints New Foreign Policy Adviser

A seasoned diplomat with vast experience in international relations, Damjan Bergant takes on the crucial role as Slovenia's new foreign policy adviser

Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar has appointed Damjan Bergant as her new foreign policy adviser, following his tenure as ambassador in Belgrade.

Bergant, who has an extensive diplomatic career, steps into the role previously held by Miriam Možgan. Starting from March 3, he will be tasked with steering the country’s external affairs at a critical juncture in European diplomacy.

Bergant, who served as Slovenia’s ambassador to Serbia since 2020, has also held prominent positions such as General Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ambassador to the Council of Europe.

His appointment marks a significant addition to Pirc Musar’s team, bringing further expertise to the presidency’s foreign policy strategy.

With Bergant’s appointment, the President now boasts a formidable advisory team of ten experts, covering everything from national security to climate policy, with figures such as former Interior Minister Tatjana Bobnar and European relations specialist Zlatko Šabič among them.

As the international landscape shifts, Bergant’s experience could prove pivotal in strengthening Slovenia’s diplomatic influence.
